‘Vulnerable people will roam the country like in Mad Max’, this was the headliner used in an article written by the Guardian newspaper on Friday 21st October 2005 after a report was issued warning that the government’s support of the homeless housing programme is in danger of failing the vulnerable people it was put in place to protect. The government cut £1.72bn from the programme.
It emerged that the cut backs the government have done to the programmes means they have already closed down many services across the country and the trend is set to continue. Peter Kegg the association chief executive of Bournemouth Churches Housing Association warned; that more cut backs on funding for homeless hostels would force homeless people to roam the streets of the country like the lawless gangs in Mad Max films.
