A WOMAN and her two young sons narrowly avoided serious injuries in a car accident this afternoon as severe weather conditions uprooted a tree which crashed in front of the car she was driving.
The Black Peugeot 206 was over both lanes on Romsey road by Westdowns Student Village as the lucky driver swerved on to the opposite side of the road to miss the falling tree which pulled down the cable line as it crashed to the ground.
The lady shaking ans screaming as she worried about checking on her two sons in the back seat, near by site stewards and security officers from the University of Winchester rushed to aid the woman and called an ambulance to as fears grow for the safety of the passengers. There was no serious injuries as people lead her in to the near by public house. County Arms manager said: “We will do anything we can for the woman and her children as they try and get over this traumatic experience.
Romsey Road was closed and cars were diverted for several hours as firefighters were called to removed the tree, car and cable lines that were blocking the road. Severe weather is reported to affect Winchester with extreme wind and rain hitting the region at around 6am on Tuesday morning; experts have advised people to not drive and to stay in if they can to avoid anymore injuries.
